MGA Luncheon Talk on 23 May 2007, Wednesday at MPC, Level 42, Tower 2 , PETT
‘The Experience of MAS and Shell MDS’ by Encik Idris Jala, CEO of the Malaysian Airline System (MAS)
MGA members, our associates and invited guests were treated to a most enriching and inspiring talk delivered by Encik Idris Jala, the CEO of MAS. Judging by the great turnout and rousing support with lively questions fielded from the floor matched with astute answers, the crowd indeed had been captivated by the speaker’s sharing of his firsthand experiences and magnanimous sharing of his ‘trade secrets’ in successfully steering businesses out of the red region to accomplish positive returns over a short term period. His ‘no-holds-bar’ and heartfelt sharing, frank remarks and down-to-earth, no-jargon presentation, surely made its marks on the attentive crowd of more than 100 attendees.
The five secrets to business turnaround of ‘the Game of the Impossible’; ‘Anchoring on the P&L’; ‘Discipline of Action’; ‘Situational Leadership’ and ‘Divine Intervention’; were clearly expounded with real-life applications that have yielded positive business turnaround in both Shell MDS and MAS. From loss-incurring to profit-making, the Business Turnaround Plan (BTP) has reaped positive returns. Result speaks for itself and the speaker’s humble and sincere approach is most effective in making the presentation come alive with its practicality and simplicity. ‘Lead by example, shown with results’; is indeed portrayed vividly in his fine example of walking and living the talk in his career. Attendees were inspired and motivated during this time of learning and self development from a ‘guru’ in the exposition of successful business turnaround.
Note :
Recent press release by MAS on 28 May 2007, announced a remarkable net profit of RM133 million posted in quarter 1 of 2007 against a loss of RM321 million in 2006. This stellar performance in quarter 1 far exceeded the profit of RM50 million targeted for the full year of 2007.
