LNG15 Conference & Exhibition at Barcelona, 24-27 April 2007
The 15th International Conference & Exhibition on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) held in Barcelona, Spain from 24 to 27 April 2007 reinforced the growing importance of LNG in the global energy sector with LNG demand expected to grow at 9% per annum to reach 375 million metric tones (518 bcm) by 2015 from 160 million metric tones (221 bcm) in 2006.
This leading international event for LNG, saw the gathering of about 5,000 participants comprising of 2,900 delegates, exhibitors and visitors over the 4-days with the coming together of leading LNG producers, consumers, representatives from governments, experts, professionals and key players of the LNG fraternity for a time of sharing of experiences, networking, updates on latest advances in the LNG industry, interaction and exchange of information pertaining to pertinent issues, trends, development, and projections of the entire LNG value business chain and the showcasing and promotion of related products and services and technology.
Sited at the Barcelona International Convention Centre (CCIB), the remarkable blue triangular-shaped venue comprising of two linked buildings, overlooks the Mediterranean sea. Equipped with a 3,200-seat auditorium, 67,000 sq. meter of floor space over three floors for exhibition displays, banquet hall, indoor walkway connection and within walking distance to 2,500 hotel rooms, this strategic and scenic venue provides easy and seamless access to delegates and visitors attending the conference proceedings, workshops and poster sessions and visits to the more than 200 exhibition booths.
Leading International Forum for LNG
The LNG Conference and Exhibition was first staged in 1968. Held every three years, this international event is the pinnacle platform for the coming together of all stakeholders involved in the LNG trade industry. The location of the event alternates between LNG buyer and seller nations. This has served as an opportune venue for meeting between contemporary world experts and leaders who are active and prominent players and movers in the global gas industry. This prestigious triennial conference is recognized worldwide as the most comprehensive, up-to-date forum for the exchange of technical, economic, and scientific information on liquefied natural gas. Program covers all aspects of LNG: globalization, technical, operational, project development and execution, commercial aspects and financing, shipping, safety and security.

Spain with 6 liquefaction plants operating in Barcelona, Sagunto, Cartagena, Huelva, Bilbao and Mugardos-El Ferro, has emerged to become the world’s third largest importer of LNG accounting for 9.7% of world LNG imports.
Five keynote addresses were delivered as follows :-

- ‘Impact of LNG on the European Gas Market’ deliberated by Mr Fabrizio Barbaso, Deputy General Director of Energy – DGTREN- European Commission
- ‘Atlantic Basin LNG – A key for securing future supply for Europe?’ by Mr Rune Bjornson, Executive Vice-President of Norwegian energy company, Statoil
- ‘Critical Issues for the 21st Century – a SIGTTO Perspective’ by Mr James A McHardy, Secretary General, Siggto
- ‘Outlook for the US Natural Gas Market to 2030’ by Mr Guy Caruso, Administrator, Energy Information Administration, Department of Energy, USA .

These keynote addresses set the stage for the conference proceedings which also incorporated workshops and poster sessions. Besides the conference proceedings and exhibitions, city tours and technical visits were organized for delegates and accompanying persons.
PETRONAS hosted a cocktail reception themed on ‘Enchanting Malaysia’ where invited guests were treated to an evening of entertainment by our cultural dance troupe whilst feasting on a wide spread selection of Malaysian food and delicacies.
Other major multinational companies such as Chienere Energy of USA, Royal Dutch Shell, Siemens, Petrobras, KBR and JGC also hosted evening functions for the delegates.
All in, the delegates and visitors had had an enriching, rewarding and enjoyable time at the 15th LNG Conference taking in the latest LNG news and updates, forging camaraderie and vital contacts and reflecting on the rich cultural and artistic architecture and bedazzling sights, sounds and flavors of the charming and beautiful Mediterranean city of Barcelona. The 16th LNG Conference & Exhibition will be held in Algeria in 2010.
