The Malaysian Gas Association (MGA), established in 1986, aspires to create synergy in realizing and harnessing the potential of the gas industry by driving the increased utilization of gas through research and development initiatives, while promoting its usage domestically and internationally. With a membership hailing from more than 130 corporate organizations, MGA is committed to making meaningful contributions to the gas industry through the organizing of gas and gas-related events, seminars, conferences and also in actively participating in worldwide gas activities under the auspices of the International Gas Union (IGU).

MGA and PETRONAS will be hosting the inaugural 25th World Gas Conference in year 2012 after being successfully nominated to helm the IGU presidency for the triennium 2009 -2012.

International Affiliations & Achievements

  • MGA is a member of the International Gas Union (IGU) which is recognized as the principal worldwide forum covering all domains of the gas industry from exploration and production of natural gas on- or offshore, pipeline and piped distribution systems to customers’ premises and combustion of the gas at the point of use. Founded in 1931 with the objective to promote the technical and economic progress of the gas industry, the IGU cooperates with many global energy organizations and has members who are associations and entities of the gas industries in 67 countries. IGU provides a platform for dissemination of news, views and knowledge on gas worldwide; organizes international conferences, cultivates fraternal relations amongst its members and encourages the exchange of information between its members and also between IGU and other international organizations concerned with energy.

  • The MGA is also a member of GASEX (Gas Information Exchange in Western Pacific Area) along with fourteen other countries. The aim of GASEX is to strengthen information exchange in order to develop the gas industry in the area and seek solutions to issues facing member countries. Major activities of GASEX include organizing of biennial conferences and exhibition.

  • One of the significant achievements of the MGA thus far is hosting the 10th LNG International Conference and Exhibition in 1992, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This premier event on LNG attracted some 4000 participants including delegates, exhibitors and visitors to the exhibition.

  • MGA also hosted the GASEX 96 Conference and the NGV 96 Conference and Exhibition in 1996.

  • As co-organizers with ASCOPE (Asean Council on Petroleum), MGA was involved in the hosting of the Second Asian Pipeline Conference and Exhibition held on 21-22 November 2006 in Kuala Lumpur. The event was participated by 300 delegates and guests from over 15 countries. In addition, the exhibition features 18 local and international pipeline companies covering all facets of pipeline design, operation and maintenance.
